Unveiling the Past: AI-Powered Restoration of Ajanta and Ellora Cave Paintings through Tech4Heritage Hackathon
Overview
India has the sixth largest number of heritage sites in the world, with more than 30 UNESCO recognised cultural heritage sites which are in need of ongoing restoration work.
Where U Elevate collaborated with the Rishihood University, Ministry of Culture, Sapio Analytics and LTI Mindtree to organize "Tech4Heritage Hackathon," which united 500+ students from top Indian universities to digitally restore Ajanta and Ellora paintings using AI, and Deep Learning, earning global recognition, Prime Minister’s appreciation in Mann Ki Baat, and showcasing at Dubai Expo 2021.
Outcomes
- Participants Engagement: 500+ participants joined the hackathon within one month.
- Solution Outcomes: The digitally restored paintings were preserved in arctic archieves for long term storage
- India's Prime Minister recognized the initiative's success in Mann Ki Baat.
- The project was showcased at the Dubai Expo 2021.
- Top 3 teams received pre-placement offers from Sapio Analytics and incubation support for product development
