This blog introduces Snowflake, a cloud-based data analytics platform, explaining its value and how to get started with it through a step-by-step guide to setting up a free trial account.
I know you might think this is some boring ... Come to the point please,
Well, this blog has
- What's Snowflake for you?
- Snowflake in today's world (Is it worth?)
- How you can start with Snowflake (The real stuff)
What's Snowflake for you?
Whether your past has Data or not, if today, you want to learn a Data Analytics platform which is powerful enough to provide Data warehousing techniques with innovation leveraging the Cloud's flexibility and cost benefits then welcome to Snowflake.
In layman's terms, Snowflake is a fully managed SaaS platform with compute and storage services using SQL queries to interact. Fully managed means, there is no hardware, no software to install and maintenance is handled by Snowflake.
NOTE: If you do not know SQL, I recommend to learn it before you move ahead in this.

This is how it looks. You will have access to your Snowflake account in a few minutes. Keep reading and implementing.
Let's have a look, if it is worth learning Snowflake.
Snowflake in today's world?
- Snowflake was the biggest IPO of 2020 at $120 a share and is $177.76 as of 3rd May
- As of January 31, 2022, Snowflake has 20+ worldwide offices in Bozeman, Amsterdam, Berlin, Denver, Dubai, Jerusalem, London, New York, Paris, Seoul, San Mateo, Sydney, Tokyo and more
- 241 of the Fortune 500 and 488 of the 2021 Forbes Global 2000 companies uses Snowflake
- Snowflake has success stories varied upto almost every domain of data
- It is booming and being adapted at a fast pace and is the right time to learn

How you can start with Snowflake?
I started with a free and amazingly interactive course from Snowflake and that's not all, learning without hands-on is of no use. For hands-on Snowflake gives you a 1 month trial worth of 400$ credits. That's enough to learn, trust me.
Let's get you the account, step by step-
1. Go to www.snowflake.com and click on Start for free

2. You will be redirected to a signup page. Fill in all required details.

3. On next page, you get the following options to choose

3. A. Type of instances
Choose Standard, it's an entry level instance and have everything you need, (ask me in the comments if you want to know more else choose Standard).
3. B. Cloud platforms
Choose any of the platforms and regions or preferably, choose the platform and region where you usually keep your data or you have your application deployed and click on Get Started.
4. Boom, Account Setup is in progress
6. You will receive an email to activate your Snowflake account and then to setup your username and password. Please take care while inserting a username and password as this becomes the Administrator of your account.

7. It's done, simple right?

Hope you have your instance and ready to explore more. I will bring more concepts with hands-on to make it easy to understand.
The next blog would be about Understanding Roles in Snowflake (Very important).
